Westside Neighborhood Readies for Rebuilding Together
Phil Votaw, Executive Director of the Westside Community Development Corporation (WCDC) feels the excitement amplifying as we approach the 2016 Game Day for Rebuilding Together Indianapolis. On Saturday, April 30th hundreds of volunteers will converge on the Haughville area to transform the lives of 15 low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly or disabled, by improving the safety and health of their homes. This one-day work blitz will build upon the success of the 2010 Rebuilding Together program in the same neighborhood.
Votaw has been with the WCDC since1992 and has been Executive Director for the past four and a half years. He said, “I appreciate the opportunity to repeat this life-altering experience with Rebuilding Together, they are great people to work with. This is an opportunity to support home owners who otherwise couldn’t get the timely improvements they desperately need.”
“This opportunity complements the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Great Places program that is currently underway in our neighborhood at West Michigan and King”, Votaw stated.
He added, “Rebuilding Together brings significant experience on how to lead a major volunteer event and how to complete home improvements professionally. Anytime you get hundreds of volunteers working in your community it inspires additional neighborhood improvement activities and a pride in community.”
